ARTICLE 1: NAME AND HEADQUARTERS OF THE ASSOCIATION:

It is Turkish Association of Urology.

The Headquarters of the Association is in Istanbul. When necessary branch offices and representations may be opened in accordance with law. Branch offices may not open representative offices.

RTICLE 2: PURPOSES OF THE ASSOCIATION:

With the aim of carrying out scientific and professional studies in the field of urology and medicine together with all other disciplines related to urology to the contemporary level and beyond; the association endeavors to conduct, to have conducted, to support and to encourage all sort of studies. It is not a political association.

ARTICLE 3: ACTIVITIES OF THE ASSOCIATION:

The association may do the following in order to realize the purpose of the association:

1. The association arranges scientific meetings, seminars, symposiums, national and international congresses with the aim stated in Article 2.
2. The association arranges faculty and post- specialization studies and academic development studies.
3. The association tries to provide competence and development of colleagues in occupational and medical science studies and to protect and further their rights.
4. The association collaborates with other occupational foundations, faculties, educational organizations and medical academies.
5. The association is authorized to carry out the duties of setting up and inviting to partnership with other national and international organizations, to send delegates and to receive delegates sent.
6. The association may send delegates and representatives to all sorts of national and international occupational activities. To this end it may receive and make payment. That associations may invite members of associations and organizations in foreign countries to Turkey or send their members or representatives abroad in accordance with the invitation of the foreign associations and organizations depends on the authorization to be given by the Ministry of Interior upon taking the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant ministries’ opinion.
7. When necessary, the association provides coordination and utility by establishing relations with governmental bodies and legal foundations.

A Brief History of Turkish Association of Urology

The foundations of Turkish Urology were laid in 1909. However it gained its true identity after the year 1923, i.e. beginning from the foundation of Turkish Republic. The young Turkish Urology was founded in 1933 with the aim of congregation as a society and stating its presence. As it is well known urologic matters were considered a part of surgery branches for a long time. However some specific features of urology and its different surgical methods became rapidly accepted as a separate field. Two chairs were established, one at Istanbul Faculty of Medicine and the other at Gülhane Military Medical Academy followed by the establishment of urology clinics at the Vakıf Gureba Hospital and at other state hospitals.

Urologists working heart and soul to spread the name “urology” desired to come together and to establish an association, to issue a regular publication and to announce the name of Turkish Urology to the entire world. With this aim and based on Article A of the Law on Associations numbered 3512, 14 urologists in Istanbul came together and founded Turkish Association of Urology on the 23rd of January 1933.
